Comparison post: Gold-blue Duochromes

L-R:  Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Shimmering Sea, Shiro Glowstick of Destiny, Dawn Eyes Cosmetics Gold Gilded Blue, HelloWaffle Archean Earth

Rather recently, when my Shiro Glowstick of Destiny eyeshadow came in, I realized I had an obsession with gold blue dochromes...so what better way to document that than to make a comparison post?

I have four that I've swatched together here, over top of NARS Smudgeproof Eye Primer. I wear Missha Perfect Cover BB cream in #13, for reference.

Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in Shimmering Sea

This is from the 2014 Bleached Neons collection, of which you might still be able to find kicking around - I think there's one at the Shoppers near my apartment still. This is an LE shade, though it was also released in 2013 as Seashore Frosts. Anyway, it's a very pretty blue grey shade with a golden shift. Unlike my indies, this is a cream shadow, for those unfamiliar with Colour Tattos, and I applied it with my finger while the rest were patted on with a brush. It's also more expensive than the others, as I paid $9.99 CAD for it (I know, I should have waited till Shoppers put it on sale for $6.99 or $7.99). I like it. It's easy to apply, and I tend to wear it without primer as it doesn't crease on me.

Shiro Glowstick of Destiny

This shadow is from Shiro's recently released Avengers collection. I must confess, I haven't seen the movie, nor do I really want to (Pro tip: taking a class on comic books in the English department is indeed cool and a lot of fun, but it makes you super critical about comic books and the worlds they inhabit). So I have no clue to which character Glowstick of Destiny refers. It's described as a "muted Tesseract blue with strong golden duochrome." It's a very pretty cornflower blue. I adore it. Shiro's full sized shadows are $6 USD, which means I paid roughly $6.55 CAD for it.

Dawn Eyes Gold Gilded Blue

This shadow is officially discontinued, though you can e-mail Dawn and she will recreate it for you, for an extra $1 USD on top of her regular full size price, which is $3 USD. Which means I paid roughly $4.35 CAD for it. This is probably the best deal of the bunch. It's a gorgeous, highly pigmented colour. I don't have the official description for it, but the name is pretty self explanatory. The blue base leans more cerulean, in my opinion.

HelloWaffle Archean Earth

I received this as a GWP in the Canada Day sale, so technically I didn't pay for it, but it was available to purchase during the sale. It's not in the shop right now, so I can't check on it, but it will be available within the next week or so as part of the Space Duo. It is described as  "ocean green with intense gold shift and green sparkles." I'd say the base is pretty turquoise, quite blue-leaning.

You can see in the above photo that the Maybelline comes off very bronze, rather than gold. Also the metallic gold sheen in Gold Gilded Blue causes it to pull green in these photos. I did double check, and Gold Gilded Blue and Archean Earth are quite similar.

Gold Gilded Blue and Archean Earth are similar enough that I don't think you'd need both of them, though the finishes are different: Gold Gilded Blue being a smooth metallic and Archean Earth having some glitter in there. Glowstick of Destiny is noticeably different from them, as is Shimmering Sea.

All of these are beautiful colours, and I highly recommend all of them to anyone interested!
