Solitary Scrutiny: Femme Fatale Peaches for Me

This was a short week, but a busy one, and I'm glad Saturday is here. I also had the misfortune of having a cold this past week, and in amongst the stuffed up nose, the hacking cough, the constant headache, and the general misery, I lost my sense of smell for a couple of harrowing days. It's hard for a scent addict like to go without the sense of smell, since I use it so heavily to reinforce my visuals.

It also meant I had to put aside some decants I was planning on testing. And instead, pull out this Femme Fatale eye shadow I got from Shiro a while ago. Peaches for Me (which I keep wanting to call Peaches for You, not sure why) was the April Colour of the Month, but is still available.

Side note: I'm not sure how I really feel about Colours of the Month. They're a fun, simple way to boost sales, I suppose, but a lot of them are around for longer than the month, which is good, because I don't really have the resources to order from places every month. But I also feel like they should only be around for that month, and then gone. But then there would be the angry masses to deal with, I suppose. Maybe I just need to stop buying limited edition items or even pseudo-limited edition items. To be fair, I didn't actually know Peaches for Me was a CotM until I went to look up the colour description about five minutes ago, because I don't think the Shiro listing had that on there. Anyway. I'll revisit the limited edition thing later after I think about it some more.

A pale peach with lilac and pink sparkles.

L-R: over Pixie Epoxy, over NARS Smudgeproof primer, bare skin

For whatever reason, I could not get the sparkles to show up on camera. Possibly because I have an ancient camera and still haven't upgraded. Over Fyrinnae's Pixy Epoxy, the sparkles formed more of a soft pink-purple sheen, while over the primer, they were more individual. On bare skin, they just blew away.

Bare skin

Pixie Epoxy

On bare skin, the shadow is all but invisible, lending only a bit of yellow tint to my skin. Over primer and the Pixie Epoxy, it's properly peachy. This shadow is also a glitterbomb. It really needs the glitter fixative to keep it from raining glitter on your face, which kind of sucks, because I don't often use glitter fixatives when doing my makeup. It's nice enough over primer, but the glitter tends to migrate. Meh.

I used Peaches for Me in today's makeup:

  • Fyrinnae Powder Primer
  • Missha Perfect Cover M BB Cream in #13
  • NARS concealer stick in Chantilly
  • Shiro Fatality Finishing Powder
  • Pumpkin & Poppy Oak Bark Contouring Powder
  • NARS blush in Deep Throat
  • NARS Smudegproof Primer
  • Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liner in Ultraviolet
  • Femme Fatale Peaches for You (lid)
  • Corvus Cosmetics Gingerbread Haus (outer corner)
  • Colourpop Super Shock Cheek in Monster (browbone)
  • Essence clear mascara (brows)
  • Rimmel Wonderlash Lift Me Up mascara in Extreme Black
  • Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Petal
I hate everything about that Rimmel mascara (stupidly huge brush, smells like fake cucumber) so I think I'll be tossing it today. And yes, I own one Colourpop item - my stance collapsed when Auxiliary Beauty swatched Monster. It's so pretty! So I signed up for the e-mail newsletter, got my $5 off coupon code, ordered Monster, and then promptly unsubscribed. You got me once, Colourpop. It won't happen again.

Peaches for Me looks more like the bare skin swatch, even over primer on my eyes. It's subtle, and pretty, and once the glitter has finished getting everywhere, I like it well enough. It's not knocking me out or anything. The glitter in it pairs well with Gingerbread Haus, which I have yet to review but should pop up here sometime soon-ish.

And now I'm off to read a trashy magazine and enjoy one of my favourite beers:

  1. "Peaches for Me (which I keep wanting to call Peaches for You, not sure why)" - I do not think you would have that same problem if it were an apple-themed eyeshadow called "Apples for Me" :P I especially like the pop of liner in this look!

2018 Reads: October to December

I DID IT! I read 52 books in 2018. However, I didn't really do what I set out to do, which was to learn to enjoy reading again at a more...
