After last weekend's camping trip, I've finally stopped being itchy and gross, so this weekend is off to a smashing start. I think summer is starting to fade away - September is one of the loveliest months here, so I'm looking forward to the comfortable late summer weather.
This week's scrutiny is Darling Clandestine's Mare Desiderii - yes, the one that was in the HelloWaffle Visage box and that will be out on September 1st at Darling Clandestine. I was sent this as a gift from the lovely owner of HelloWaffle, because I was chatting to her about Visage and coaxed some spoilers out of her. Even though I don't have Visage, I like to know what I'm going to be envious about each month. She mentioned that Darling Clandestine was coming up in a future box and that it a scent from DC that hadn't been out for a while. I told her I was going to figure out which one it was. She told me she didn't think I could.
Challenge accepted. I am a librarian, after all. Finding information is literally my job.
After about a minute of scanning the DC Discography, I asked if it was Mare Desiderii.
Ha. I win.
And I did win, because she sent me one of the extra bottles of Mare Desiderii she had. It arrived a few weeks ago now, and I've worn it a handful of times. And I really, really like it.
Delicate, white, watery, ozoney. Water lotus blossoms splashed with crushed white grapes, yuzu and mandarin, pinched with green sprigs of plum.
In the bottle, it is grape and water. It remind me a bit of the 2014 version of Fire Eater, but not as sweet and more feminine. This is a delicate, elegant perfume - pretty and unexpected enough to work for me, but also easy to wear and would not be out of place at a dinner party or something. I don't really know, I don't go to dinner parties. How about a wedding? I actually have a wedding to attend within a month, so maybe I'll wear this. This perfume makes me think of soft blues and purples and greens, which goes with the dress I'm planning on wearing.
On my skin, it's a lovely mix of citrus and grape. Not too sweet, just pleasantly fruity. There's a floral bit to it - I've noticed that most of my favourite perfumes that do contain florals in them have lotus - and smooth, cool water. It doesn't morph too much on my skin. Over time, it faded to a soft floral aquatic, with the fruit dissipating after about three hours. Altogether, it lasts seven hours on my skin, with moderate sillage. This is a beautiful perfume, perfect for the late summer.
You will be able to get Mare Desiderii at Darling Clandestine's Etsy shop, on September 1st.
It's turning into yet another godawful, humid, sweaty weekend day, so I'm off to hunker down with some iced tea and shade. Happy Saturday!
