Solitary Scrutiny: Haus of Gloi Peppermint Cocoa

I had lots of grand ideas about doing some eyeshadow swatches today, and doing some looks, but since its nine million degrees out and sweat is dripping down my face, I had to switch gears. It's been disgustingly humid here and I think I'm losing 10% of my weight in sweat every day. Go away, summer, you didn't bother to show your face for most of the bloody season. You're not welcome now.

This weekend, we're piling in the car with friends and family and all driving home for the AC/DC concert in Moncton. It should be one wild party, and I'm looking forward to good food, loud music (I don't particularly love AC/DC, but hey, big concert and when you're from Atlantic Canada, you make the most of these opportunities), hot tub, firepit, friends, and family.

In honour of my bitterness about the weather, this week's scrutiny is delightfully unseasonable: Haus of Gloi Peppermint Cocoa. This was a winter Reveries scent from at least 2013. The lovely /u/booperz on reddit sent this to me as part of a gift, knowing my deep and undying love for all that is mint chocolate.

The absolute greatest sadness of coming to terms with my lactose intolerance has been the lack of mint chocolate chip ice cream this summer. Though I did make a bunch of whipped cream yesterday to eat with my strawberries and suffered the digestive distress afterward so clearly I haven't fully come to terms with it. (Will I crack and get a cone? We shall see.)

When I was a kid, I used to infuse the milk for my hot cocoa with a bag of peppermint tea. This is just that, a hot cuppa cocoa infused with peppermint!

In the bottle, this smells exactly like sticking my nose in a tin of powdered mint hot chocolate mix. I finally admitted to myself last winter, for all of my love of mint chocolate, that I should probably get rid of the remainder of the Second Cup mint hot chocolate mix that my mom bought me in 2008. But it still smelled fine and tasted fine up to 2014. And the scent in the bottle smelled like that.

On my skin, it smells mostly the same. I compared this to Sixteen92's Peppermint Hot Chocolate, and Sixteen92's take is like a decadent piece of mint chocolate bark while Haus of Gloi's is a mint Aero bar. Both are good and satisfy the need for mint chocolate, but one (Sixteen92) is more decadent and all around just better.

It fades into a soft, slightly minty vanilla chocolate scent, which I think is my favourite part of the wear - it's very delicate. The sillage during the powdered hot chocolate mix phase is moderate, but hugs quite close to to the skin in the later phase. It lasted about eight hours on my skin.

I got my mini scleral lenses this morning, so I'm still adjusting to my new eyesight. It should be an interesting weekend.

Mascara Showdown

I never review mascara on here or Instagram for a handful of reasons: I have pretty good lashes - long, curly, plenty of volume.  Because...
