Today is the first blizzard of 2016, and apparently plowing is no longer of interest to the city. So I awarded myself one snow day. Next time, winter. Next time. I will triumph over you and get to work because I left my Coffee Crisp hot chocolate there.
But really, what better way to spend part of a snow day than to spend some quality time with my blog and a couple of Yule perfumes? I ordered these with the Yule release in November and have had them both for some time now, long enough to wear both several times and form full opinions on them.
I also got a mislabelled bottle of Winter Divinity. I felt a pang when I opened it and saw Wintervale - because I must be the only person who didn't really like Wintervale - but fortunately, I had ordered two bottles of Winter Divinity, as a friend and I ordered together, so after a quick sniff test, I was able to confirm that I actually did get two bottles of Winter Divinity and carried on my merry way.
Sugary white vanilla divinity with a surprising jolt of peppermint
I have been lusting after this one since the Cyber Monday release of 2013, and I missed buying it. And then decided it was perfect. Winter Divinity finally returned to Haus of Gloi for Yule 2015. And I snapped it up. Is Winter Divinity the thing of dreams? Yes, but not in the way I expected.
In the bottle, it smells more like a York Peppermint Patty. I love York Peppermint Patties, so this is good, but I think something akin to Trident's vanilla peppermint Layers gum is more what I had in mind.
On my skin, it still smells like a York Peppermint Patty, though it gets more of a vanilla cream edge. As it wears, it becomes more vanilla-toned, but also remains very York Peppermint Patty-esque. It has moderate sillage and lasted about five hours on my skin.
Ye Olde Cake of Fruit
Rich brandy soaked spice cake filled with candied citron, pecans, candied cherries and pineapple
I want so badly to like this. And actually, I do. It just has not staying power on me at all. The longest I've managed to eke out is two hours, and that is not going to work, especially since I have such limited time to wear scents now. I want that time to be filled with scents that I love, and scents that work for me beautifully. This is fruity, rummy goodness (and I don't even like the reality of fruitcake - though my cousin makes a mean one and maybe I will get to try some someday) but we cannot seem to meld properly.
In the bottle, it smells like cherries and pineapples and rum and spice cake. The rum and spice cake are particularly dominant, but in a cozy, pleasant way. On my skin, the fruit disappears after a few minutes, leaving behind rum and cake. The spice is not as prominent any more. Some cherry sneaks back in after a few more minutes, and it vanishes completely after an hour and a half of cherry, cake and rum. The sillage is quite low, as well. I will be passing this one on.
So fifty-fifty on my Yule choices this year. I'll take it.
There is still some Yule things up, and some of them marked down, at Haus of Gloi's website.
